Therapy for children and young people focuses on understanding and addressing the unique challenges they face.
This approach will involve the child being offered a comprehensive psychological assessment and formulation. This involves exploring the reasons behind seeking psychological support for the child or young person. We look at their feelings, mood and thoughts alongside life events and particularly any traumatic experiences.
Psychological formulation allows us to draw upon psychological theory and models to understand best the child’s experiences and what is keeping the problems going. We then focus on establishing together direction, goals and best psychological models for you.

Children, young people and adolescents often sadly experience difficulties with various issues within their lives. They can often find great benefit in talking to a professional within a safe place where they feel confident and neutral.
Children and young people often experience distress, and they are in fact very resilient and often cope well with support from family, friends and school. However also often they need that bit of extra support from a professional counsellor or psychologist to work through their problems. This can help with recovery and moving forward in their lives in a positive manner.

Understanding Challenges
Together, we work to understand the child’s emotions, feelings, behaviors, and the problematic aspects of their life.
Children and young people can find it difficult to put their thoughts and feelings into words. They can be unaware of the problem at times also and just recognise they aren’t feeling good and can be struggling to go to school or leave the house.
The therapeutic process involves a multi-dimensional approach for the child or young person, and it incorporates a specialist form of integrative therapy that is tailored to their individual needs. We work with a wide range of media, art, play and sand with our children where appropriate. The key aim is to allow the child to be able to bring whatever they like to their session and for them to feel fully comfortable, heard and understood. We place a great emphasis upon allowing the child to feel free to express themselves anyway comfortable.
